EARLY PHOTOS OF JOHN SHAWCROSS AND PARROT AT CRICH sent by Bob Lennox (Docherty)

I had an email from Bob in response to the parrot photos taken at John's funeral wake I placed on the blog. The first photo was taken in 1970, and shows John and Ian Musgrove taking Richard Clark for his first tram driving lesson on Rack 2. The site looks like a moonscape, with all the white dust from the quarry crusher covering everything.

The second was taken with Bob's  Galah, Rosie, during a visit by some Portuguese friends in 1995.
Here is a short video of Bob with his Severe Macaw, Carmen, which he unfortunately had to leave in Portugal when he returned to the UK

JOHN SHAWCROSS FUNERAL - VERY FITTING SEND OFF

John's funeral was a very fitting send off and attended by approx 200 people. The service had a reading of  'I am a Tram Man' poem read by Geoffrey Claydon and a eulogy by Colin Heaton about his life and times from a child to his time at BREL and the Tramway Museum. Mourners were brought from Crich in two vintage single decker buses and back to the Red Lion for the wake.

A surprise awaited everyone in the Red Lion where several parrots awaited us - one of the Workshop in jokes from many years ago.  A lovely buffet washed down by a couple of John's favourite beers followed. A grand total of £1400 was donated in lieu of flowers for the DLRAA.  Christine wishes to thank everyone for their generous donations.

BOMBAY TRAM in Kataragama, Sri Lanka 2015 - John Henderson

The Bombay tram at the Film Set Theme Park at Kataragama in Sri Lanka. It was thought that no passenger trams survived from the Bombay system, but it is rumoured several were acquired by a film company, but only this one has surfaced. The tram is now mounted on mock trucks, that are powered by traction batteries and commercial axles with rubber tyred wheels. The film set it is used on is streets of Bombay.
