Stock Taking

Empty shelves in the bookshop. The books have been moved to secure storage for stock taking. Sadly there isn't a copy of Tramway Atlas Romania and the LRTA web site says it is out of stock so I will have to contact Thomas Fischer in Berlin for a copy.Posted by Picasa

Better weather

Today it was cold and sunny. Both Thermit and the TMS outside works department were hard at work. See Historical Archive for older pictures of track work.

Computer Problems

My computer failed on Thursday evening. It is running again now and I have recovered MOST of my files. However I have lost my e-mails and perhaps some files sent between December 25th and January 12th. If you sent me an important e-mail between those days please send me a copy. Sorry!
1. Wakebridge as seen from the road from Matlock. Look very carefully and you can see three traction poles. Posted by Picasa

Generators

1. A familiar view - the tram rails are already quite rusty.
2 & 3. The rotary converter (2) and the Paxman diesel engine (3) are still available for emergency use in the event of a high voltage power failure.
I acted as 'member in charge' for mid-week running a number of times in the early 70s. One of my duties was to start the motor generator and then switch on the power. Sheffield 264 and Glasgow 812 were reserved for mid-week and getting them out of the depot would entail climbing onto 812's roof to attach the 'jumper cable'. A different world!
